A new era in real estate
RE/MAX's journey began in 1973 with a revolutionary concept that transformed the real estate sector - "Maximum commissions". This concept made RE/MAX a phenomenon. Dave and Gail Liniger recognized the importance of empowering agents by allowing them to retain a greater share of their commissions. This innovative approach quickly gained momentum, setting the stage for RE/MAX's global expansion.

1994 - 1995
RE/MAX takes off in Europe
After successfully introducing RE/MAX to Canada, visionary leaders Frank Polzler and Walter Schneider boldly embarked on a transatlantic mission to bring the brand's revolutionary concept to Europe. Their effort proved to be a resounding success, with the iconic red, white and blue balloon symbolizing RE/MAX's dynamism and innovation in the real estate sector. Spain was the debut country in Europe, and expansion was rapid to many countries on the continent.

2000
RE/MAX in Portugal
In 2000, Manuel Alvarez and Beatriz Rubio brought RE/MAX to Portugal. The strength of the brand was precisely one of the reasons that led the founders of RE/MAX Portugal to bet everything on this business.

2000 - 2008
Opening up new horizons
RE/MAX's European network has expanded rapidly, adding a diverse range of countries, including Albania, Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Montenegro, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom.

2011 - 2019
RE/MAX Europe expands to 40 countries
RE/MAX continued its expansion across Europe, adding Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2011 and extending its presence to Cyprus, Norway and Montenegro in 2016. The network's presence quickly expanded to 40 countries, marking a decade of remarkable growth and demonstrating RE/MAX's commitment to empowering customers and entrepreneurs.

2020
A landmark year for Europe
The addition of Belgium to the RE/MAX network in 2020 played a key role in solidifying the brand's position across Europe. In the same year, the network surpassed 20,000 agents, an impressive achievement that demonstrates RE/MAX Europe's continued scale and impact in the real estate sector.
