Description
Welcome, gentlemen and ladies, to the COMENDA DA PÓVOA !
In 1321, the Order's statutes were published and the monarch Dom Dinis made
the Templars' assets into commendations. The commendations consisted of a vast property or a network of properties called houses (domus), administered by the mother house.
The Comenda da Póvoa, a typical village just 15 minutes from Tomar, was visited by Dom Diogo Rego,
Visitor of the Order of Christ, on 9th January 1510. In the records of the time we find the following words:
"(...) he ordered the commendator to finish the chimney that had been started there...and to
correct the threshing house and garnish it very well so that the olives could be collected from the
olives from the olive grove. He will also have all the aforementioned houses shingled
where necessary with wood so that it doesn't rain on them (...)"
And after 5 centuries, here I am today, Knights and Ladies, to offer you the chance to win a lot of gold, to own a medieval-style local accommodation complex just 7 kilometres from the beautiful Templar city of Tomar with its Castle and Convent of Christ - a World Heritage Site!
Ideal for Nature Tourism and Historical Tourism, it allows guests to cool off in the waters of nearby river beaches such as Sobreirinho or Lapas!
Equipped with all the comforts of the 21st century, such as air conditioning units, fully equipped kitchens and bathrooms in abundance, furnished with all the furniture included in this golden deal, I repeat, a unique opportunity for you,
You will receive up to 21 guests in the COMENDA DA PÓVOA tourist complex.
The various independent rooms, which can all be connected to each other (which can accommodate different groups and families or a single group of up to 21 PAX), are decorated to the smallest detail so that every corner breathes history, charm and a unique character...
COMENDA DA PÓVOA is a successful tourist complex, currently with LICENSED local accommodation comprising :
- Casa Carôlo de Milho (3 bedrooms, 6 pax)
- Casa Mina de Água (2 rooms, 6 pax)
- Hostel Pisar as Uvas (2 bedrooms, 4 pax each, 8 pax).
CASA DA MINA DE ÁGUA - With a water mine in its underground cellar, guests can descend a few steps to see the centuries-old stone structure of this house, with construction details dating back 500 years!
CASA/HOSTEL PISAR DAS UVAS -
The house consists of two dormitories where guests, families and young people can enjoy socialising and beautiful walks around the many points of interest just a few kilometres from the charming village of Póvoa, such as taking part in the olive harvest or the grape harvest. The house also has a very old grape stomping tank, after which it is named... as well as being decorated with all the artefacts from 'bygone eras' linked to wine-making.
CORN HUSK HOUSE
A charming house where you can accommodate 6 guests plus an extra guest in the beautiful wooden mezzanine.
Built of stone, the Casa do Carôlo de Milho owes its name to the surprising construction techniques used at the time: partition walls, straw interiors, corn husks filling and insulating the walls above the doors. The corn husks used to reinforce the walls are a distinctive element that is rarely found anymore, and are now enhanced with transparent glass panels so that guests can see them! History, authenticity, heritage - that's what this house offers you!
Gentlemen and ladies, if you want to fill your purses and handbags with gold, I invite you to visit COMENDA DA PÓVOA with me, and I'll reveal a few more of its secrets ...
