History of the Urbanization - Urban Planning Notes

Portela de Sacavém Urbanization was born in the late 1960s, resulting essentially from private initiative. In 1968, developer Manuel da Mota purchased five former farms intended for future urbanization. The following year, the Portela Urbanization Plan was approved, in which architect Fernando Silva conceived a rational urban structure based on structural simplicity, typological repetition of buildings, and a circulation scheme with differentiated levels for pedestrians and automobiles. At the time, the total number of lots intended for housing was 196, and the estimated population was 18,500 inhabitants.
