Today I present CASA DE QUENTAL, a real estate complex in Tomar, right in the historic center of this medieval city.
On a plot of over 700 m², CASA DE QUENTAL currently has 800 m² of private area. This real estate complex, with several residential units and other uses, allows for:
1. APARTMENT CONDOMINIUM:
- The construction of a luxury apartment condominium, with access to a garden and leisure area with a swimming pool
2. HISTORIC LUXURY GUEST HOUSE:
- The development of a luxury tourist facility in Largo de Quental, linked to the history of the beautiful city of Tomar and, above all, to the specific history of this CASA DE QUENTAL, which dates back to the 16th century. Taking advantage of the magnificent square to frame this tourist facility of enormous potential in the heart of this city, which is increasingly sought after for cultural and historical tourism.
The CASA DE QUENTAL complex is located in a square of the same name. - LARGO DE QUENTAL - still undiscovered by tourism in Tomar, where the mysterious atmosphere and wonderful views over the building known as CASA DOS TECTOS (listed) opposite, in its splendid 16th and 17th century Baroque style, give this whole complex a character that is both intimate and magnanimous.
The main house, with a privileged location in the square, has a formal courtyard at the entrance and an imposing stone staircase topped by original 16th-century columns. Upon entering the main house, a wide corridor and spacious rooms clearly show that noble people lived there throughout the ages... At the rear of the main house is a huge porch overlooking a 400m² private garden with a well (which, it is said, provided fresh and abundant water to all the people on that street in ancient times), several fruit trees, and a stunning view of the Templar Castle. This garden also has a door onto the famous Rua do Pé da Costa, allowing for the installation of another access point in the case of tourist facilities.
On the ground floor, the main house offers a series of old rooms (storage rooms or shops) with very advantageous ceiling heights, which now await to be
transformed into a Technical Area, Apartments, or Studios, depending on the project to be
defined. One of these shops has a 16th-century stone arch that will delight history buffs.... Another of these storage rooms also leads to the garden.
Adjacent to the main house of this CASA DE QUENTAL complex are several residential units that can be connected internally in the case of hotel facilities and used with various layouts in the more than 800m² of available construction space.
Now for the best-kept secret... right in the center of Largo de Quental, a building with double-height ceilings awaits your project: a lobby for your guest house, a cafeteria to support the apartment complex, or even a tea house with a terrace along the square... give this project wings and to start discussions, let's schedule your visit to the site!
HISTORICAL CONTEXT
Ayres de Quental was the master of arms of the town of Tomar at the behest of King João III in the 16th century.
For his residence, he chose a privileged and very mysterious square in the heart of the historic center of the beautiful town of Tomar.
It was also this master, Ayres de Quental, who presided over the construction of the Chapel of São Lourenço, well known in the city of Tomar, in the mid-16th century.
By a royal letter, drawn up on October 9, 1527, King João III granted “mercy to Amtonio Fernandez, master of my iron works” of a "thousand réis each year for the said office and for the office of master of Artelharya and all other iron works that are done from now on in my town of Tomar, fifteen thousand réis, and to instruct the overseers of my estate to record them in the book of graces that is kept there, and Ayres do Quymtall, my chief supplier and overseer of the mines and metals, to record the money he receives for the provision and expenditure of the ironworks and armories that are being built in the said town of Tomar." 17 Between 1527 and 1532, Ayres de Quental was in charge of the ironworks and armories that were being built in the town of Tomar.
