Quinta das Ferrarias derives its name from the fact that, in ancient times, there once existed a small Jewish settlement here, largely composed of blacksmiths and locksmiths, according to João Maria Baptista in his Chorografia Moderna de Portugal (IV-313).

This was also the site of the renowned “Oliveira da Rainha” (Queen’s Olive Tree), considered an outstanding example of its kind in the country. According to accounts, it stood 20 meters tall and had a trunk circumference of 12 meters at the base.

According to local tradition, Queen Saint Isabel, the benefactor of Torres Novas, once held a generous meal in its shade, already remarkable at the time (early 14th century).
